What do you know about the 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited? Tell me all.

Oh, I know one very important thing to look out for that not many people know.
It has a 2.5L engine.

All I know is that I love it's curves. And I'd rather have the 2.5gt

Have the head gaskets checked. Supposedly subaru had worked out the issue by 2005ish, but I've still heard of some of this gen legacy and outback experiencing the failure.

It is rather luxurious for a Subaru, it’s a limited after all.

I know nothing about the Legacy itself, but I do have an 08 Outback, which is almost the same thing. I’ve certainly enjoyed it so far. Leather is like butter and the seats have been comfortable for ten straight hours, ride is smooth, handing is solid (though the Outback has more body roll than I’d like, going to work on that). I do wish I could connect my iPod to the car via Bluetooth instead of aux jack, so I could change songs via the radio and not have to dig my iPod out of the console. Also when the transmission is in fifth gear it blocks my view of the rear defroster button so I can’t see if it’s still on. Those are probably my biggest gripes.

Good alternative to a Camry or Accord. Solid reliability and easy to work on, but I’d avoid the CVT because they just don’t drive very well.

It’s worth stepping up to the GT, but besides the head gasket issue (apparently not that bad by that year) they are pretty solid. Not a bad place to spend time commuting.

not a bad car - gussied up reliable 4wd transportation with a bit of a wonky 4spd auto and possibly in need of a head gasket. My old boss had one, (that auto box hunted between 3rd and 4th more than any other auto I’ve driven.)

Head gaskets are all I’d really worry about - they are not MLS like the GTs. However, if you change the oil and coolant at the proper intervals with the conditioner it’s fine. The customization options are pretty much endless as well. They’re easy to wrench on and the fit and finish of the leather interior is pretty damn good for a Subaru. Add a thicker rear sway and yellow Koni struts to your stock springs and the thing handles like a BMW M3. I agree with the sentiment of a lot of people here - get the GT if you can. I got a used one in excellent condition with 55k miles for 16K in the Pittsburgh area from a dealer.

These have the EJ253, which pretty much solved the head gasket issues of the EJ25 series. Some people still have issues, as m-b-w said earlier, but it is rare.
The timing belt is due at 105,000 miles or 105 months, which ever comes first (interference engine, and all the stuff that comes with that.
Watch for valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals. I just had mine replaced on my 09 Forester (same engine as these Legacys) at ~60,000 miles. A common sign is a slight stumbling of the engine under low load and oil on the spark plugs.
The 4EAT is not nearly as bad as everyone says it is.
